A broad variety of payment cards is offered recently on the Bulgarian market, including credit cards, debit cards, co-branded cards, gift cards, etc.
In order to facilitate your choice we provide you with the following advice:
- If you don’t need credit, take a payment card without credit limit – they are much cheaper than credit cards.
- Be careful with debit cards. Many of them are with low prices, but limited payment possibilities.
- If you live in Bulgaria and don’t travel abroad a lot, take a domestic credit card. Usually, they are much cheaper than international credit cards.
- If you need international credit card, choose one with cash back on purchases. Cash back could compensate the higher price of the international card.
- If you plan to repay regularly your statement balance in full, take a credit card with an interest free period.
- Looking for a credit card with an interest free period, pay special attention on the interest charging dates. Take a card with interest, charged from the end of the interest free period, not from the transaction date.
- Do not overestimate promotions. In many cases, after the promotional period clients are charged with high interest rates and fees.
- Be careful with co-branded cards. In many cases they offer discounts provided by just one merchant. Compare your expenses for the maintaining of the co-branded card and the discounts that you can get from the merchant. If the result is negative for you, look for a more universal card.
